Accessibility: Inclusion and Innovation

Most of us traditionally think of Accessibility in context with differently-abled people, but it isn't confined to that. Accessibility makes websites usable by as many people as possible, including the differently abled. It must also benefit people using mobile devices or those with slow internet connections.

It covers the tools and resources they need to reach their full potential and focus on participation in society. It can also help people without disabilities by making technology and environments easier to use and providing them with the information they require to be more inclusive.

According to recent WebAIM research, 96.3% of website home pages detected  WCAG 2  failures. It is a very slight improvement from 96.8% in 2022. The percentage of pages with evident WCAG failures has dropped from 97.8% over the previous four years but that too by 1.5%.

Despite the slight improvement, the percentage of websites with WCAG failures is still quite high, showing that there is still much work to be done to ensure Accessibility.

Accessibility is essential for inclusion and drives innovation. Without Accessibility, people with disabilities cannot use digital assets, limiting their ability to participate in society. Additionally, the lack of Accessibility can limit innovation by preventing people with disabilities from contributing to developing new technologies.

However, the lack of compliance makes it difficult for people with disabilities to access digital assets. Accessibility must be addressed to make the web more accessible for everyone.

We provide users with the tools and resources to access the web, videos, and audio easily. These tools can also help people without disabilities by making technology and the environment easier to use. In addition, it provides them with the information they need to be more inclusive.

Follow the Lead

Accessibility provides value to everyone by helping create an equitable society. It allows people of all abilities to access information and services, regardless of their ability level, and helps create a more inclusive world. It also helps businesses better serve customers and create a more diverse and inclusive workforce.

For instance, if a website is designed to be accessible, it will also be more user-friendly for people without disabilities, such as those using mobile devices or older computer systems. WCAG and AODA-compliant websites can help businesses to reach a wider audience and increase the number of customers. Creating an accessible website can also increase search engine rankings, as it is a positive signal to search engines.
